Today I posted the song Bandeira Branca in the unmistakable voice of Dalva de Oliveira.
The origin of the music is curious, related to samba schools. Originally, the white flag
was used to announce to passers-by the styles used in samba marking. It was also used t
o evoke other passers-by from rival schools who did not want to fight, were just passing
through and would use the avenue and streets for their merrymaking. In the early days of
street samba, the public streets were taken over by violent rival groups that faced each
other, ending the party. Portela was the first school to parade with a white flag on the
old samba avenue. She did it with a beautiful white flag, announcing that she was going
to parade without wanting to fight with the other associations. Based on this ideal of
peace, the song was composed. Unforgettable success is not it? Music present every year
